Mosaic mural with mirror, glass, and glass negatives.

By Bette Ann Libby, Brookline, commissioned by the Planning Commission, Town of Brookline, Aaron Norris, Senior Economic Development & Long Term Planner. This mural is a part of The Art Around Town public art grant program, which invited local artists and artist groups to submit proposals for permanent, interactive works of public art in main commercial areas across the town.

“We Are Brookline: Reflections and memories of Brookline, Then and Now” was Installed June 3, 2025 at 2 Harvard Street, Brookline Village. Iconic landmarks in Brookline Village are incorporated into the outlines of this mosaic. In the foreground, two local women from the turn of the century, are each seated by a window, frozen in time within photographic glass negatives.

Passersby are encouraged to pause and take a selfie as they view themselves reflected in the mirrors, becoming part of the image.

Among the studio assistants were David Begelfer and Elaine Shannon of Brookline.
